Here are the details of the stamps issued in India in 2023:

17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Stamp

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has launched a campaign called ‘Surakshit Jayen Prashikshit Jayen- Go Safe, Go Trained’ to promote safe and legal migration and overseas career opportunities. The aim of the campaign is to increase public awareness about the importance of using safe and legal channels during job-related travel, enabling migrants to integrate and have a safe and productive stay abroad. The campaign has been widely publicized through awareness workshops and Pre-Departure Orientation & Training (PDOT) for prospective migrants. 

 

To further promote the campaign, a Postal Stamp with the tagline “Surakshit Jayen Prashikshit Jayen” was released during the 17th PBD Convention in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on 8-10 January 2023. The stamp release is expected to generate much-needed awareness and intensify the Ministry’s efforts to promote safe and legal migration and overseas employment opportunities.

Major Durga Mall Stamp

Durga Mall, a native of Doiwala, Dehradun, Uttar Pradesh, was born on 01/07/1913, now known as Uttarakhand. His parents were Shri Ganga Ram Mall and Smt. Parvati Devi Mall. At 18, on January 26th, 1931, Durga Mall joined the 2/1 Gorkha Rifles at Dharamshala Cantonment. His educated and composed demeanor earned him the respect of his peers and he excelled in the army’s training.

In 1942, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose formed the Azad Hind Fauj, tasking Durga Mall and Asman Singh to volunteer captive soldiers under the leadership of Poorna Singh Thakur, Rash Behari Bose, and Captain General Mohan Singh. Unfortunately, on March 27, 1944, Durga Mall was taken prisoner by British soldiers in Mashipur ‘Akhrul’ near Kohima.

The Department of Posts has released a Commemorative Postage Stamp in honor of Major Durga Mall, a hero of India’s independence struggle and a source of national pride who fought against British rule.

75 Years of India-Egypt Diplomatic Relations Miniature Sheet

This year marks the 75th anniversary of India and Egypt establishing diplomatic relations, as announced on August 18th, 1947. Over the years, the partnership between these two countries has grown stronger through continuous political engagement at the highest level. The Ganga and Nile rivers both hold deep significance for their respective civilizations, representing faith, culture, and traditions. The Ganga holds great importance in India, playing a role in religion, culture, commerce, and industry. 150th Birth Anniversary of Ram Chandra Maharaj Stamp

Ram Chandra Maharaj, also known as Lalaji Maharaj, was a spiritual master and the first spiritual teacher of Sahaj Marg Raja Yoga meditation. He was born on February 2, 1873, in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. Lalaji Maharaj provided spiritual training to seekers from all walks of life without discrimination, guiding them to the highest stages of realization. He welcomed people of any caste, creed, or religion who had a quest for ultimate reality.

Lalaji Maharaj was well-versed in Urdu, Persian, and Arabic and had a strong knowledge of Hindi and Sanskrit. He supported the remarriage of widows and the education of women. The art of yogic transmission of divine energy or pranahuti was passed on to his most devoted disciple, Babuji Maharaj. Today, the Shri Ram Chandra Mission or the Heartfulness movement aims to connect humanity through daily yoga and meditation practice, offering the precious gifts of human transformation and integration.

General K S Thimayya Stamp

Kodandera Subbayya Thimayya, a decorated soldier of the Indian Army, held the position of the Chief of the Army Staff between 1957 and 1961. He was a highly respected figure with an excellent combat record. General Thimayya also served as the Commandant of the renowned Indian Military Academy in Dehradun and was appointed as the Quartermaster General on 1 October 1951. In addition, he was specifically chosen by the United Nations to lead the Neutral Nations Repatriation Commission in Korea.

General Thimayya’s remarkable achievements in his military career, diplomatic assignments, international cooperation, and civil administration make him one of the most distinguished personalities in India. After retiring from the Indian Army, he went on to serve as the Commander of UN Forces in Cyprus from July 1964.

Bridal Costumes of India Miniature Sheet (Type II)

The attire of a Manipuri bride is vibrant and unique, setting it apart from other communities. During her wedding, a traditional Manipuri bride wears a skirt called Raslila. Similarly, Chakmas brides wear a black and red sarong referred to as Pindhan in the local language.

Bengali brides typically don a Banarasi saree, often in a vibrant shade of red, adorned with intricate gold embroidery to complement their gold jewellery. The traditional attire is a sight to behold during their special day.

During a Marathi wedding, the bride typically wears a stunning Paithani saree in either yellow or green, adorned with a golden border. Geographical Indication: Agricultural Goods Miniature Sheet (GI Tags)

Geographical indications (GIs) are a type of intellectual property (IP) right that identifies a product as originating from a specific geographical area and possessing qualities, reputation, or other characteristics that are closely linked to its place of origin. In 1999, the Indian government passed the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, which went into effect in September 2003. These GIs are an integral part of our shared cultural and intellectual heritage, and their protection and promotion are essential. These valuable treasures, deeply rooted in Indian traditions, should be shared with people around the world.

Local farmers in the Karewas (highlands) of Jammu and Kashmir cultivate and harvest the Kashmir Saffron. It is the only type of saffron grown at an altitude of 1600m to 1800m (above the mean Sea Level) in the world. 

Chulli, also known as Wild Apricot, grows abundantly in the wild in the districts of Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Sirmour, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti of Himachal Pradesh. 

The Ganjam Kewda Flower grows on a small tree or shrub, which is both cultivated and grows wild, in coastal areas of Odisha. About 80-85% of the Kewda canopy is concentrated within a 10 km radius of the seacoast. 

The Kaji Nemu (Assam Lemon) is believed to have originated from a chance seedling raised in the citrus station Bumihut from the progeny of the variety collected under the name China-kaghi from the village Hashara in the district of Sivasagar. 

Mahabaleshwar Strawberry has three major varieties: Chandler, Sweet Charlie and Camarossa. Mahabaleshwar contributes about 90% of the total production of Strawberries in India. 

The Allahabad Surkha Guava is known for its large size, thin skin, thick flesh, deep pink color, sweet taste, pleasant aroma, and numerous seeds. 

The Shahi Litchi of Bihar is one of the best varieties of litchi mainly grown in Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, Siwan, Darbhanga, Sheohar, Begusarai, and adjoining areas of Bihar. 

The Naga Tree Tomato is a fruit that grows on trees and resembles a tomato closely. However, it is not a true tomato. It is grown widely throughout the state of Nagaland and has been a traditional food item of the Naga people for ages. 

The Gir Kesar Mango is a famous variety of mango grown particularly in the Junagadh region of Gujarat. The term ‘Kesar’ (saffron) is used to describe this variety due to the saffron color of the fruit pulp, which has almost no fiber. 

The Bangalore Blue Grapes are primarily grown in the Bangalore Rural district in Hoskote, Dodballarpur, Neelamangala, and Devanahalli. 

Vazhakulam Pineapple is grown in Ernakulam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, and ldukki districts of Kerala. Locally, it is known as ‘Kannara.’ 

The Eathomozhy Tall Coconut is a natural selection of a traditional variety of west coast tall coconuts that adapts well to the soil and climatic conditions of the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, India.
